It looks like a silver fish to me. I hate them too!!! They like books and paper, so watch out when you open books! There are over the counter things you can get that will help. A ortho 3 - 6 month residual spray will work; you need to treat around the edge of your basementby the floor and wall. Just keep people and pets out of the basement for a few hours until it dries. A good idea is to also treat around the base of your house espesually near the part where the siding meats the foundation and around windows, this will help prevent any insects from coming in and it should last most if not the entire summer for you. I would suggest wearing gloves when using these products and don’t do it on a windy day. I hope this helps you out. I used to work for a exterminating company and have a simular problem in my house every year too. yuck!!! Gives me shivers just thinking about it. Good luck Terry!

Terry, I also have them in my basement and find them in my kitchen sink on occation, they are so gross. I goggled it and this is what I found.
they have 15 PAIRS OF LEGS!!!

    House Centipede - Scutigera coleoptrata

    Scutigera coleoptrata (L., 17
Scutigera coleoptrata (L., 1758). This is believed to be a European species that has been introduced into North America by man and now occurs throughout the continent. It is often found inside houses in damp, cool spots, like in bathtubs, sinks & drains, and cellars.

So goggle the name and Wikipedia will give you a great picture and lots of info.

    Hope this helps!

I have not seen silverfish with so many legs but it could one, I agree with Heather that you should spray around the base of your house. I cannot imagine Terry wanting to catch one but if you did, take it to garden store and they could probably help you figure out the best way to get rid of them. Silverfish like humid places so if you have or can get one run a dehumidifier that helps to ward them off.

We have them too! And I hate them! I thought they were called house centipedes, but I could be wrong.
Maybe you can google “creepy bugs” and find out…haha…

The sure way I know to get rid of them is with a shoe whenever I see one!

Hope you can find a way to get rid of them!
