Hi Terry!
Niagra Falls is always a fun day trip! Always a TON to do there! Also I LOVE Water Safari in Old Forge, NY. I know it’s not that close to home but it is doable in a day. My grandparents live up there and sometimes we go up there for a day! Always enjoyable!!
Enjoy your summer!!

Hi Terry ~
The Corning Glass Museum is always fun and it’s not too far away. Also Alexandria Bay is awesome! Check out this site:

If you do go the Niagara Falls area, you HAVE to go on the Whirlpool Jetboat tour in Niagara on the Lake. It is sooo much fun! Just be prepared to get very wet. They take you through class 5 rapids in a jetboat. A little scary, but totally safe! We go every year, even if we just get to go for the day.

Watkins Glenn is beautiful! You can go to Corning Glass Museum in the same day. A great day trip. Be sure to wear good walking shoes to walk the Glenn.

Depending on how far you want to travel, some good day trips are:
* Cooperstown - Baseball Museum/Hall of Fame
* Thousand Islands - go on boat rides or island hopping; visit the Boldt Castle on Heart Island
* Howe Caverns
* Sterling Renaissance Festival (http://www.sterlingfestival.com/)
* Later in the summer you could always go to the State Fair
Some that are a bit closer, but still far enough away to consider them a trip:
* Letchworth State Park
* Hot Air Balloon Festival in Dansville (http://www.nysfob.com/)

If you like to camp Terry, Skybrook campground in Dansville NY is always a treat! I have been going there for over 10 years and I love it, very relaxing and you can always stop up to my trailer (pretty much a cottage) and I can make you dinner! haha. But also you can check out stony brook which has a wonderful trail to walk and swim in, also if your going to Niagara Falls do what the woman above said, check out Niagara on the Lake, love the shops and the resturants there are wonderful

The Lab of Ornithology at Sapsucker Woods, Cornell University, Ithaca, is open to the public. They have great viewing areas (indoor and outdoor) of all kinds of local birds. There is always great nature artwork and displays going on inside the wing shaped building.

Skaneateles is a great town to walk around and shop. Take the boat tour of the lake and eat at the Sherwood Inn.

Terry:
We are doing NH (your favorite Lake)…for the Nascar races (next weekend) and then a day in VT on the way back home –and then a few days with my hubby’s family in Tupper Lake — we’re making a big circle….and then back home.

We stayed in the city one year for vacation - had a blast. George Eastman House, Musuem, boat ride on the canal - also the Harbor Town Belle boat ride in Charlotte, a walk on the pier - custard at Abbotts. There are lots of great restaurants in our area - also if it rains, go to Color Me Mine in Pittsford Plaza for some craft fun. Play miniature golf, take a walk on the new walkway in Durand Eastman Park. Concerts at the beach on Wednesday nights. Festivals/parades, etc. almost every week. Enjoy!

There is a nice museum down in Hammondsport called the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum (gosh I hope I spelled that right). It’s suprising how much history is in this area that has national/world significance. Mr. Curtiss was a pioneer in aviation.

Terry- have you ever been to Green Lakes (I am asking that of a lady that grew up near Syracuse) I used to like taking Ashleigh there when she was a baby- those lakes are beautiful- and really chilly on a 90 degree day.
Dee & I chaperoned (surprise!) a 5th grade trip to Letchworth a few weeks ago and really wish I had more time there. If it’s just you & Doug, you can wander all over! Take the bug spray.
Have fun!

Terri,
If your’e looking for something to do with the family, check out the Civil War re-enactment at Genesee Country Museum! It’s July 19th and 20th, and this year the battle of Gettysburg is going to be re-enacted. I am a member of the 140th NY Volunteer Infantry Living History Organization, and this is my FAVORITE event because of the village surroundings and the 800+ re-enactors that come! If you’re concerned about the heat, well thats understandable, but there are places you can get bottled water within the village, or if you get friendly with a re-enactor they’ll give you water. Stop by my tent…the White Roof Inn and say hi!

Terry,
I have been on vacation since last Friday and decided as well to stay home. Went to Skeneatles for the day yesterday.Had lunch at Doug’s Fish fry ( the very best ever )and walked around the town.It was the only day I felt like I was actually on vacation all week.The thing is when you stay home, it is just like a day off out of work and not vacation. Cheaper though.

I would just like to agree with what Julie said up above about Genesee Country Museum. My boyfriend and his brother-in-law do the re enactment every year (except this year unfortunately due to an internship for school) and I absolutely LOVE going. There is so much to do and tons of things to buy. It’s also a great history lesson too!

Terry,
A beautiful day trip for the whole family (not recommended for the little tykes) is the Gand Canyon in Pa. It’s about an hour over the border of Pa. A beautiful ride there, totally awesome when you arrive. Take a picnic with you and a camera!!! Hiking boots or good sneakers.There is a great diner in Wilkesberie.

A 2 years ago the whole family went up to Martin’s Fantasy Island in Grand Island, NY. It’s a short trip and well worth it! They do a western shoot-out and have some other shows there that are great! The little western town is great!
