Radio’s been very, VERY good to me…..
If you caught the show this week, you may have heard segments taken from old “air checks” of mine. The station was WBBF 950-AM and the year was 1986. I was relatively new to radio, having been in Rochester on the air part time and full time for a total of 2 years. Listening to those air checks makes me cringe, it has been truly painful. There is, however, a bright side, after work this week I started thinking of the wonderful things that came from that job. Spending an hour on the air with Graham Nash, from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young as he sat there telling me the story of how they wrote “Teach Your Children” and mid-way through I realized that I was being PAID (!!!) to do that, what a joke! Later that year getting to meet an artist that I was nearly obsessed with, Julian Lennon! Why he was doing a show for an oldies station I’ll never know but he was and I got to meet him and I will die a happy woman because of it! That job lead to this one and need I say more? I have met so many people, I have been graced with the most amazing collection of listeners that have gotten me through 25 years of life’s ups and downs and I have worked with the best human beings, ever to draw air and then fill it with something worth listening to. You have a part in this and I thank you for that, you and kind and generous with your support and understanding. Oh, I’m not going anywhere, don’t misunderstand me, I just decided to count my blessings and say thanks. Oh and besides, you never know, Julian may “go country” one of these days and HOLY MOSES make a return trip to Rochester!!! And I’ll still be here!! It’ll be GREAT!!!!!
