I was searching through my childhood memorabilia stuff last week looking for a note I received in High School when I came across a “to-do” list for me from my father.  On my Saturday list of busy work (meant to keep me out of their hair) ‘ole Chip, my Dad,  instructed me to wash the car and I quote “You better make those “white-walls” shine!”.  What ever happened to white wall tires, and what was their purpose anyway.  I drove up and down the NYS thruway this weekend and took note of the glaring absence of white wall tires.  I distinctly remember my parents ordering their Chevy Celebrity and proudly adding white walls to the short list of “extras”.  I always thought they looked sweet but maybe that was because I was proud that they were one of the few status type symbols we actually had.  Anyway, maybe you sell cars or work on them for a living or probably you are just way smarter than me but do you know?  Where did the white wall go?
